Brand Identity

Memento Park, located in Budapest, Hungary, is a collection of Communist-era statues and memorabilia. My primary focus was to approach the identity with respect to how Communism affected Budapest and its people. I wanted to honor the history and lives lost. I decided to work with the concepts of contrast and scale to reflect the statues that the park is known for. When facing a statue, it's easy to feel dwarfed by both the physicality and the emotion. I chose to emphasize the "M" to echo this experience of standing in the shadow of such heaviness- both literally and figuratively. The park itself is neither pro nor anti-Communist. It exists solely to hold space for what is left of the era and to educate. I wanted to stay away from the classic communist colors, red and yellow, so kept I the colors to only black and white to reflect the neutral stance that the museum holds.
